This is the native hawthorn in the greater Northwest region. It is a deciduous broad leaf shrub to small tree. It grows quickly, has clusters of white flowers in May-June, and dark purple fruits beginning late summer. Often some nice fall color. Good native insect and bird support. It can grow in moist areas, but is also drought tolerant. Great plant for hedges and forest edges.
