This West Coast native shrub is an incredible landscape plant. It is evergreen, drought tolerant, and deer resistant once mature and not on irrigation. It has a roundish shape in the open, and will reach about 15’ tall. Fast growing when irrigated. The leaves are glossy green and aromatic. The stems get covered with small purple berries, which birds eat. It fixes nitrogen, and is hardy to zone 7.
