This is an evergreen currant, native to Southern California and Baja . It gets 3-4’ tall, to 6’ wide with a spreading habit. The leaves are a handsome dark green with a waxy shine, on dark red stems, and are very aromatic. Dark pink clusters of small flowers appear late winter to early spring, followed by red berries. It can take a lot of shade, and needs shade if planted inland in hotter areas. Growth rate is medium to fast, the shoots arch over and are likely to tip root and continue spreading. Drought tolerant. Hardy to zone 8, 10-15 F. Family: Grossulariaceae
